Rule: Thunderbolt dock — Full features need a Thunderbolt (or Thunderbolt / USB 4) port, as on most Apple-silicon Macs and recent iPad Pro models. Each Mac’s device page shows its ports. Needs macOS 15 or later. CalDigit: base M5/M4, Pro/Max/Ultra (M1–M4) and Intel Macs get up to two displays; M1/M2/M3 base Macs are limited to one external monitor via Thunderbolt; M5 Pro and M5 Max get three, and M5 Max up to four. Full speed needs an 80Gb/s Thunderbolt 5 host.
